We get a lot of calls asking us to decipher serial numbers on saddles.  Of course we're always glad to talk to our customers, but we thought it would be helpful to give you the information that will help you understand what the numbers mean.  We'll start with Circle Y and add a few other manufacturers in the coming weeks. 

Circle Y Numbering Scheme   

Here’s an example of a serial number that is located on a plate under the jockey on the mounting side of the saddle : 1655-1601-05   The first four digits are the model number.

Seat Size:  5 = 15",  6 = 16" etc.

 

 

 

Seat Covering:

0 = No Pad - hard leather

 

 

 

 

1 = leather

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2 = black suede

 

 

 

 

 

 

7 = chocolate suede

 

 

 

 

 

8 = apache (like bomber jacket)

 

 

 

b = light blue suede

 

 

 

 

 

g = gray

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

p = pink

 

 

 

 

 

1st digit = Grade:  1 = high     2 = medium      3 = entry level

Depending on how old the saddle is, you may see some older variations of this numbering scheme.  Here are some examples:

Serial # 2666 1608 0703

 

 

2666 is the model #

 

 

 

1 indicates a Regular tree  (a 5 in this position indicated a Wide tree)

6 indicates the seat size = 16"

 

08 is the saddle color (Pecan)

 

0703 means it was made in July of 2003

 

 

 

 

 

Serial # 3106 5501 0893 04

 

 

3106 is the model #

 

 

 

5 indicates a Wide tree (a 1 in this position indicated a Regular tree)

5 indicates the seat size = 15"

 

01 is the saddle color (Walnut)

 

0893 means it was made in August of 1993

04 means it was the fourth saddle from the production run

 

 

 

 

 

Serial # 2001 0679 05

 

 

 

2001 is the model #

 

 

 

0679 means it was made in June of 1979

05 means it was the fifth saddle from the production run

Tucker Numbering Scheme  

You may see something like the following numbers on a plate under the jockey of a Tucker saddle : 147-620-4166-22     20091145
